TRENDING: Andrea Miller/A.I.M. new work YEAR

A.I.M.’s latest endeavor, Year, is the brainchild of choreographer Andrea Miller, a Guggenheim Fellow, guest choreographer, and director of her company Gallim Dance. Year premiered at the Joyce Theater in New York. The currency of this generation, and of the future, lies in information, in data. When logic becomes our entry point into every space, the body loses its relevance, its experience, its feelings, its infinite differences from one person to the next.

Being present in a digital, remote, or virtual capacity changes how we as humans put stock into body language, and the exchange of being in each other’s presence. New ume on human presence, embodiment, feeling, uniqueness, identity, and our reliance on bodily expression. The 30-minute piece welcomes its dancers and audiences into a space of ritual, practice, and meditation, where we enter the sublime through an investigation into the stamina of the body.

BOOKS ON CHOREOGRAPHY & CHOREOGRAPHERS:

Wild Grace --  the Untamed Women of Modern Dance, by Sara Veale, Faber & Faber, London, 2025. The untold history of the extraordinary women who drove the modern dance movement and changed cultural narratives about sex, power and women's rights. The story of modern dance is a story of subversion - of forms challenged and hierarchies toppled in the pursuit of blazing artistic integrity. In Wild Grace, Sara Veale profiles nine of the pioneering women at the heart of this movement, from Isadora Duncan and Loie Fuller’s fearless rejection of nineteenth-century paternalism to Katherine Dunham and Pearl Primus’ battles to recenter marginalized histories in the wake of the Second World War.

Each of these dancers redefined the meaning of grace in their art and their lifestyle, conveying vital truths about what it means to walk the world as a woman. Veale brings to life the stories and artistry of these remarkable individuals and reveals how, in their refusal to conform, we can find urgent lessons for today. CINEMA ON CHOREOGRAOHY AND CHOCHOREOGRAPHY

Étoile, a ballet-themed dramedy from Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, is a Prime Video series set in both Paris and New York. Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies as they embark on a groundbreaking scheme to lure audiences back to their art form. “A lot of our dancers have abandoned toe shoes for TikToks,” says Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Geneviève, interim general director of l’Opéra Français and Le Ballet National.

The eight-episode toile, which premieres on April 24, was partially inspired by Frederick Wiseman documentaries like La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet, which capture “the tough world behind this very delicate art form,” says Palladino.
