ARIZONA: Company choreographers are invited to apply for the Wickenburg Residency with the opportunity to pursue new projects, mount work, or collaborate with other artists, free from everyday pressures. AUSTRIA: In Marie & Pierre, Bobbi Jene Smith opens the stage to two lovers and a swarm of characters who take turns telling their side of the same story. ITALY: La Scala’s Madina is a new project in both its approach and its themes, current but universal, and rarely expressed in ballet. The events, based on a true story, revolve around a young girl named Madina who grows up in a land devastated by a war that claims her parents. With choreography by Mauro Bigonzetti and music composed by Fabio Vacchi to the libretto by Emmanuelle de Villepin from her novel La ragazza che non voleva morire, it is a work of both dance and theatre, where words, song, music, and body come together. UK: Royal Ballet’s Festival of New Choreography is a series of performances, events, and activities taking place across the house that embraces and champions new, diverse voices in choreography. The festival, which will take place on the Main Stage, in the Linbury Theatre, Paul Hamlyn Hall and Clore Studio, is part of The Royal Ballet’s commitment to choreographic innovation and nurturing the future of the art form.

Five new works have been commissioned by The Royal Ballet for the Main Stage. Joseph Toonga (The Royal Ballet Choreographic Residency for the 2023-24 Season) creates his second work for the Main Stage. Making their choreographic debuts in the space are Gemma Bond, Jessica Lang, Mthuthuzeli November and Royal Ballet First Artist Joshua Junker.  In Muse Paradox, Brett Fukuda reinterprets Balanchine’s Apollo using a female perspective choreographer's lineup to update Swan Lake or The Rite of Spring. Still, Apollo and other Balanchine classics haven’t inspired nearly as many reinventions—until now. In France, the country where Apollo first premiered in 1928, 31-year-old Brett Fukuda uses a female perspective to reinterpret the story of the youthful god nurtured by a trio of muses in Muse Paradox, her first main-stage commission for the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Rhin.
