There are thousands of leading education organizations, college programs and schools for young and emerging choreographers around the world.

In the US more than 240 colleges and university have specialized dance programs offering training in choreography. Over 600 institutions in US higher education host some form of and dance composition and choreographic practices in their curriculum.

In addition to the higher education format option, International Consortium for Advancement in Choreography is developing own alternative methodology and text book for educating young and emerging choreographers in cross genres – ICON SMART™. NATIONAL UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS

The American College Dance Association exists to support and affirm dance in higher education through regional conferences, the adjudication process, and national festivals. The educational mission of the Association is to foster creative potential, to honor multiple approaches to scholarly and creative research and activity, to promote excellence in choreography and/or performance, and to give presence and value to diversity in dance. 

American Dance Festival serves the needs of dance, dancers, choreographers, and professionals in dance-related fields. ADF’s programs are developed based on its mission: to encourage and support the creation and presentation of new modern dance work by both established and emerging choreographers, to preserve our modern dance heritage through continued presentation of classic works as well as through archival efforts, to build wider national and international audiences for modern dance, to enhance public understanding and appreciation of the art form and its cultural and historical significance, and to maintain a forum for integrating and disseminating information on dance education. 

National Dance Education Organization provides professional development, networking forums, honor societies, journals, research, and advocacy tools for teachers, administrators and students in the field of dance arts education. Our members teach multiple dance genres in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, K-12 schools, dance studios, colleges and community centers. Every January is the National Choreography Month - NACHMO, a new exciting platform for dancers turning into choreographers is. This is the annual challenge that spurs dancers to choreograph by providing a month-long deadline and a community of peers. We offer opportunities for participants to share their new work with each other and with the public in both informal and fully produced shows.
