CALIFORNIA: The 20th Annual Choreography Festival at the McCallum Theatre Institute will take place on November 10, 2018 in Palm Desert, California. Choreography by both emerging and established dance makers from across the nation will take center stage in McCallum’s popular festival. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of each performance. Highlighting dance as an art form, this event delivers an exciting mix of work by inventive artists. CALIFORNIA: Hart Pulse Dance Company is accepting submissions for The 12th Annual MixMatch Dance Festival. The festival brings together all dance styles from across the U.S. on one stage to be presented in four different performances each August. MASSACHUSETTSThe Yard at Martha’s Vineyard offers Offshore Creation Residencies of two to three weeks, emphasizing the collaborative nature of dance making. Provides daily access to studio and/or theater, with option to lead community class or residency-related workshop and culminating in a minimum of two public performances. Residency artists are hand-selected by Yard staff after review of live performances or showings. FRANCE: The Centre Chorégraphique National of Mulhouse/Ballet de l'Opera du Rhin is now accepting applications for its residency program, which offers resources and financial support for selected candidates. FRANCE: Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen en Normandie welcomes a choreographer or company to come in residence for creation or research, with work spaces and CCN participation in realizing a project. FRANCE: Cite Internationale des Arts is now accepting applications for its residency program. GERMANY: TURN is a fund for artistic cooperation between Germany and African countries, aiming to encourage a wide range of German institutions to shift their focus to the artistic production and cultural debates in African countries. GERMANY: Choreographers up to age 40 can apply for a Guest Programme for Young Foreign Theatre People conducted by Goethe-Institut, Munich, and the Federal Republic of Germany Centre of the International Theatre Institute (ITI). Grant recipients will be taken in by theatres in Germany to become familiar with production conditions and the conception and rehearsal process of at least one production. GERMANY: As a center for choreographic practice and research, K3 – Center for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg offers various types of residencies. Each year, the program provides 3 choreographers with a chance to work on site for 8 months. Usually this working period runs from August to April. The program is intended for choreographers currently at the beginning of their professional careers, but who have already produced some choreographic work of their own. Visit:


INDIA: LSHVA Space for artists invites dance practitioners and choreographers to showcase their ongoing work in the 8th Edition of Work in Progress on April 21, 2018 in Bangalore. Since its inception, Adhyaya has invited and presented numerous such artists and works from across the world to India – work that is breaking boundaries and which brings innovation in tradition. ITALY: OpenFLR 2018, an intensive dance lab, is looking for emerging choreographers to come to Florence and create a new piece alongside internationally acclaimed choreographers. OpenFLR 2018 will culminate in a final presentation, held in a theatre in Florence on July 17, 2018, and open to the public. SPAIN: Each year a Barcelona International Dance Exchange (BIDE) Lab-meeting takes place in Barcelona with around 60 professionals in performing arts coming from as many as 25 countries, welcoming dancers, choreographers and cultural managers for a networking and exchange platform. TAIWAN: The Taipei Artist Village offers residency opportunities for innovative makers of visual art, music, literature, and performance, while fostering artistic and cultural exchange between Taiwan and the rest of the world. NEW YORK: Lar Lubovitch celebrates his company’s 50th anniversary by presenting a haunting world premiere, set to seldom-heard choral music by Schubert, as well as signature works, including Men’s Stories. The program runs from April 17-21, 2018 at the Joyce Theater. Watch:


NEW YORK: Nimbus Dance Works presents the world premiere of Samuel Potts Esther. This edgy interpretation of the complex First Testament heroine -- whose rise to power encompasses themes of feminism, tribalism, and seduction -- is performed with live music by Brooklyn indie-rock group Sky-Pony. NEW YORK: Wayne McGregor, one of the most well-known international choreographers of the 21st Century, will choreograph AFTERITE as his first ballet for American Ballet Theatre (ABT). The visceral movement and contemporary sensibility of McGregor will bring an entirely new take on The Rite of Spring to the ABT stage. The international dance festival TanzTage 2018 runs through April 26, 2018 in POSTHOF LINZ, Austria. In the art performance "Woven Heads" the Upper Austrian performer and dancer Silke Grabinger and the Canadian dancer Emmanuelle Le Phan (Tentacle Tribe) deal with the physical and immaterial entanglements that arise in and through rituals between 2 persons. UK: English National Ballet will present Voices of America from April 12-21, 2018 at Sadler’s Wells. The program includes William Forsythes world premiere of a new work created for English National Ballet. UK: BalletBoyz will perform at Sadler’s Wells from April 26-28, 2018 with their unique project -- 4 pieces created in just 14 days. Choreographers Javier de Frutos, Craig Revel Horwood, Iván Pérez and Christopher Wheeldon teamed up with composers Scott Walker, Charlotte Harding, Joby Talbot and Keaton Henson to create new works that play with the concept of balance and imbalance. GREECE: Greek National Theatres Third International Ancient Drama Workshop will be held from July 16-30, 2018.  Apply by April 15, 2018. PHILIPPINES: Elmo’s House Artist Residency in Batan, Aklan is a contemporary art project and studio/live space for local and international artists. PHILIPPINES: Bellas Artes Projects, with headquarters in the historical building from which its name is derived, is centered on supporting the production of contemporary artists, providing a space for experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration with Filipino heritage building and craft techniques, largely through residencies on its campus at Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar. Visit:


PHILIPPINES: Project Space Pilipinas (PSP) offers an Artist-In-Residence Program, also known as the Neo-Emerging Artist Residency, to establish effective networks in creating opportunities for possible collaborations with local and international artists. Artists can spend their time on creative exploration and production. Lucban, a culturally rich town south of Luzon, Philippines, offers an environment conducive to research, immersion and collaborations. The context and other structures of PSP can help artists to expound and develop approaches and produce methods suitable to their own practice. The residency will be from 1 to 3 months. Visit:


SWITZERLAND: At its 6th Edition, Ticino in Danza is offering a campus for dancers and choreographers to work together and explore new ways of perceiving and creating movement. Campus LAB is an intensive program for students of advanced level, young choreographers who intend to expand their research on the body, and dancers seeking to deepen their knowledge and build an international network. 1.         Akram Khan’s Giselle for the English National Ballet, hailed as a masterpiece of 21st Century dance, comes to cinemas for the first time in April 2018: Watch


2.         Taking Flight -- Madonna set to direct a biopic by Michaela De Prince, dancer at The Dutch National Ballet:


Madonna will direct the MGM drama Taking Flight, based on the life of ballerina Michaela De Prince. DePrince is currently second soloist at the Dutch National Ballet. Film studio MGM has been developing Taking Flight since 2015, when it first bought rights to Michaela and Elaine DePrince’s memoir, Taking Flight: From War Orphan to Star Ballerina. The book follows Michaela DePrince’s life from an orphan in war-torn Sierra Leone to a world-renowned ballerina.


“Michaela’s journey resonated with me deeply as both an artist and an activist who understands adversity,” Madonna said. “We have a unique opportunity to shed light on Sierra Leone and let Michaela be the voice for all the orphaned children she grew up beside. I am honored to bring her story to life.”


Madonna will direct from a screenplay by Camilla Blackett (“New Girl”). Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton will produce alongside Ben Pugh and Guy Oseary. MGM Production President Jonathan Glickman and Tabitha Shick are overseeing the project on behalf of the studio. A release date for the film has not been announced.

3.         Rooted with Wings is a visual dance documentary that explores the work of internationally acclaimed choreographer and dancer Tero Saarinen, granting the viewer a unique impression of this extraordinary artist’s creative process. Featuring stunningly captured dance sequences and behind-the-scenes material from around the globe, the film brings to light how Saarinen’s dance works evolve from an idea or concept into a finished performance.


The film follows Saarinen over a five-year period from 2014 to 2018, through several premieres of new works and tours in Finland, France, Korea, Kenya and Japan, while bringing to light his approach to his life as a global nomad in dance. In a turbulent world fetishizing technology, change and constant online availability, Saarinen embraces a philosophy of awareness, presence in the moment and centered physicality. Watch:
